Call of the Wild Festival 2022
New Wave Of Classic Rock frontrunners Massive Wagons are set to play the biggest gig of their career when they headline May’s Call Of The Wild festival at Lincolnshire Showground.
The Lancashire band, who hit the UK Top 10 with 2020 album ‘House Of Noise’, are to use pyro for the first time, bringing Friday night’s festivities to a suitably explosive end during their slot on May 20th. “We’ve seen the production and can assure you that you will not see a bigger show this year from the band,” Call Of The Wild stated on its social media. “Don’t wait till you see the photos/videos and wish you were there!”
Speaking to Planet Rock, festival booker Raz White added: “We spoke with their production team the other day and it is very much the band’s first step towards reaching the next level. Lots of fire and pyro! I am seriously excited. This is the show they plan to take out in 2023, so it is very much an exclusive for Call Of The Wild.”
The festival runs over four days from Thursday May 19th until Sunday 22nd. Around 70 bands will perform across three stages. Among those joining Massive Wagons for the event are glam rockers Reckless Love and Crashdiet – both making relatively rare appearances in the UK – plus Phil Campbell And The Bastard Sons, Ricky Warwick, manic metallists Raging Speedhorn and numerous rising stars including the hotly-tipped These Wicked Rivers and Florence Black.
Having conclusively overcome what it describes as “the soul-destroying challenges” of rescheduling the event four times due to the pandemic, the organisers have reached out to thank both fans and the industry for its support. White adds: “There was solidarity within the industry like never before. So many wonderful people that also recognise our passion and willingness to overcome any and all obstacles.”

After several years on the cover circuit with retro indie band Ace Face, Adam Thistlethwaite and Baz Mills went their own way to write original hard rock n’ roll music in 2009. Recruiting Adams younger brother Alex, and old school buddies Adam ‘Bowzer’ Bouskill and Carl Cochrane the fivesome set out to drink some beers and play some music billed as Massive Wagons.
The band started their career with the name Reckless Life, under which they initially played covers of Guns N’ Roses. Having had no success with this approach, they began to write their own songs, and won the Kuopio Band Competition in 2004. As part of the Kuopio Popcity Project 2005, Reckless Love, along with Rainbow Crash, Svat and Sideshow Zombies went on a Scandinavian tour, visiting Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons is a Welsh rock band established in 2016 by longtime Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell, following the 2015 death of Motörhead frontman Lemmy.
